The Person of Jesus
We value the death He died so that we could live. We value His teaching on how we are to live our lives, demonstrated by the perfect model of His own life. We aim to be faithful and obedient to Him by living in every possible way as His disciples.
The Grace of God
Out of His grace, God blesses us freely and generously in all kinds of ways that we do not deserve. Everything we have from God has been given, not earned (Ephesians 2: 8, 9).
It is therefore our aim that every aspect of our church life be characterised by the grace which we ourselves have received from God.
The Activity of the Holy Spirit
We can do nothing without the Holy Spirit. We are absolutely dependent on Him to reveal to us more of the Father and the Son, and to give us the power to do all that Jesus has called and commissioned us to do.
We want Him to be the leader and initiator of every activity which forms part of our church life.
The Word of God
We believe the Bible to be the authoritative and inerrant word of God, and therefore our ultimate authority for what we believe and how we live (2 Timothy 3: 16).
We believe in the necessity of reading it, preaching it, studying it and practising it.
We believe the primary way to tap into and release the resources of God for the doing of His will and the coming of His Kingdom is through prayer.
We are therefore committed to the practice of individual and corporate prayer.
We believe God to be absolutely worthy of all the worship, praise, glory and honour we can give Him.
We believe that to worship Him with our whole being is our highest calling, and that every other activity of the church flows from this.
Loving and Strong Relationships
We believe loving and strong relationships between church members to be indispensable to church life (1 Corinthians 13: 1) and the most distinctive characteristic of followers of Jesus (John 13: 34, 35).
We therefore place a high value on the building up, maintaining and strengthening of relationships between members, and especially upon the qualities of openness, honesty, respect, accountability and loyalty.
Because Jesus “came to seek and to save what was lost” (Luke 19: 10), we place a high value on reaching people who have not yet found a relationship with God. We aim to structure and live out our church life in a way that is as accessible as possible to unbelievers without compromise to the gospel.
Serving our Community
Jesus gave the disciples an example of loving service when He washed their feet (John 13: 1-17). In the same way we believe we are to reveal Jesus in the parish by loving and serving our community in practical ways.
St Andrew’s exists to be and make fruitful disciples of Jesus
To help us do this we have adopted the following statement of Core Values
They describe the kind of church we aim to be
